Sidemount

Here at DRDS we specialise in Sidemount, and almost all our dives, when not in a rebreather, are in Sidemount. Why? There are a lot of good reasons, as our friend Steve Davis covers very eloquently here. In my case, it was because of back problems with my favourite dive buddy, my wife, which led to her giving up on back mount. I convinced her to try sidemount and to keep her company, enrolled on the course with her.

I fell in love. The freedom of free diving (almost) and all the benefits of carrying two tanks of breathing gas? Priceless. Of course, it will not be suitable for every diver on every dive, but so far I have not had to do a dive where I couldn’t use sidemount successfully, and I have not had anyone try it who hasn’t then made it their primary configuration. – Brendon

RECREATIONAL SIDEMOUNT

The recreational sidemount course takes the cylinders off your back and allows you to attach them to your sides giving you more freedom as well as a more streamlined profile. This is what we specialize in at DRDS. This course can be combined with the Open Water or Advanced courses.

It is highly suggested that you have your own sidemount rig for the course. However we have different brands and styles you can try out to find the right fit for you and the type of diving you will be doing now and in the future.

TECHNICAL SIDEMOUNT

Technical sidemount allows you to use additional decompression cylinders or additional safety gas in open water or overhead environment.

It is suitable both for sidemount recreational divers who intend to start their journey to more technical levels and for existing technical divers who wish to transition from backmount to the sidemount configuration (a number of underwater skills will be taught slightly differently, but fundamentally the training will be the same).
